Back to School with a Book Recommendation!
Hi Reader!
I hope summer has treated you well. I know I thoroughly enjoyed mine. I made significant progress on my novel revision (approximately 160 pages into an estimated 560 pages of "write-in"), spent some quality time with my husband, and relaxed as much as possible. Alas, summer has come to an end.
With September, my university classes have resumed, so between that and the day job, my writing time will be scant for most of the next eight months. Also, focusing on my novel revision means I don't have a lot of new and exciting projects to share with you right now :( . So, I thought I might try something a little different.
Starting next month, I'm going to share a little series letting you into my writing process - breaking down the work that goes on behind the scenes while writing a book. Keep in mind, every author's writing process is different.
I will also try and share my favourite reads/listens from the past month, in the hope you will discover some new favourites among the amazing authors I have the privilege to call my colleagues.
My first recommendation for you to check out is What Remains by James Fuller. (Yes, the very same who won the book giveaway this summer.)
What Remains is, on the surface, a post-apocalyptic zombie novel. But this story is far from skin deep! I'm rarely a fan of anything zombie, or zombie adjacent, but I LOVED this book! The story and characters are complex and richly developed. I think anyone who enjoys the interactions of good and evil that I try to explore in my work, will also enjoy this book. (Just an FYI: I got the Audible edition).
