Greetings Reader!

Here's what's new since last we spoke:

This month, I’ve finished preparing my latest story, “To Mend a Broken Limb,” for publication through my website. It will likely also appear on Amazon Kindle before the end of the year, but you have first access to it here!

I wrote it in one of my favourite styles, but it’s not one I explore often because it’s…well…rather flowery. However, if you enjoy 19th century fiction (authors like Mary Shelley and Edgar Allan Poe) you may appreciate this piece. You can read an excerpt of the story here and see if the style is to your liking. (Use password: Insider1 ) For any who wish to purchase and read the entire story, I also offer a warning: the story contains themes of suicide that may be disturbing.

Like most authors, I’m also an avid reader, and lately I’ve been slowly working my way through a poetry collection by Anthony Doyle. Mr. Doyle was kind enough to send me a copy of his book, "Reluctant Seductions," and you can expect to find a full review of it on my site when I have finished. Like all good free-style poetry, it is best when savoured, but I can say so far, the collection is every bit as sensual and delectable as it promised to be.

What are you reading right now? What do you love about it? I'd love to hear about your favourite books and authors, just reply to this email.

Thanks for sharing a little of your day with me!

Until next month, Cheers!

A Special Announcement Hi Reader! Is it already June? Wow. So, here's the thing: in March, I started in a new role at my day job. I may have slightly underestimated how much the promotion would cut into the time I spent creating new worlds and sharing them with you. (Okay, "slightly" is a massive understatement.) I miss you! And I'm still working on bringing you delightfully dark stories and book recommendations to lose yourself in. For now though, I simply can't do so monthly. I hope you'll...

Hi Reader! Have you ever wondered what all goes into taking an idea and transforming it into pages of entertainment? Every writer has a different process, and that process can vary widely depending on any number of factors. Today, I'd like to share a little bit about my first step in any brand new project: free-writing. Usually, I'll start with a half-formed idea for a character, or a setting, or an interesting sequence of events. I prefer to free-write by hand in one of my notebooks. (I've...

Hi Reader! I hope summer has treated you well. I know I thoroughly enjoyed mine. I made significant progress on my novel revision (approximately 160 pages into an estimated 560 pages of "write-in"), spent some quality time with my husband, and relaxed as much as possible. Alas, summer has come to an end. With September, my university classes have resumed, so between that and the day job, my writing time will be scant for most of the next eight months. Also, focusing on my novel revision means...
